Original frame house built in 1811 was the birthplace of Gen. William T. Sherman (Feb 8, 1820) and his brother Sen. John Sherman. House tours include furnishings owned by the general and other family memorabilia, a museum room and a recreation of Sherman’s field tent with several items he used during the war. Open mid-April to mid-November Tuesday–Saturday 1–4 pm. $6/adult.

Bronze statue stands at the site of the birth of George Armstrong Custer, Civil War hero and ill-fated Indian fighter. Only the foundation of the house remains where Custer was born Dec. 5, 1839. Exhibit pavilion on site. Open daily. Free.
